LIFESTYLE IN MUSHIN

MUSHIN Olosha, Babalola, and Pako- Eleja; are some major bus-stop in Mushin. You might wonder why Mushin suddenly? I grew up in Palm-avenue, Mushin, a suburb of Lagos. I don’t like to mention to humanity where I live, plus it’s known for its notoriety, and I’m sure you have heard terrible stories about this place. But not to worry, I’m about to make this story juicy.

Growing up in Mushin myself, I know the neighbourhood is often associated with violence and poverty, so when I tell guys I am from Mushin they expect violent behaviour from me but, I’m “ajebota”. I lived in a well planned, clean, quiet environment with pharmacies, supermarkets.

Mushin reflects on the rest of the country. Have one step forward, choose a few steps backwards. I remember while I was in secondary school, some girls didn’t want to associate with me when I told them I stayed in Mushin. The same thing happened to my neighbour’s son in the church. OMG! But why Na? Just because I stay in Mushin, doesn’t mean I’m a hoodlum. My environment doesn’t define me, but refine me.

  • Mushin is full of independent businesses

Mushin is blessed with Commercial enterprises including shoe/ bag manufacturing materials, Amu timber market, Ladipo market for spare parts, fast-moving consumer goods company, the Idi-oro market for electronics component, plastics production, a home for book printing, grocery and industrial sector in Matori and all lot of others.

  • Mushin has the best joint in Lagos.

Mushin also has living areas with a mix of upscale cocktail bars, pulsing clubs, and laid-back beer parlours on the busy town planning way. Street food stalls sell suya, or traditional meat kebabs dot the area, and there are mid-range fashion houses, eateries on the Coker road and home stores in the Spar.

  • Diversity

Mushin is full of many individuals. Young families, grandparents, politicians, struggling musicians, millennials, students, Igbo communities, Hausa natives – you name it; they all live in Mushin, and they all love it. It is easy to fit into the different neighbourhoods within the district without fear of segregation or any form of culture shock.

The town is served by Mushin general hospital Oloyede, Lagos state university teaching hospital, Idi-araba.

  • Active nightlife

Nightlife in Mushin makes shopping easier for residents returning home after a hard day’s work; shoppers can buy almost everything they want, with little or no difficulty.

In recent times, there have only been some “minute changes” in social development in the area across the years, the drainage systems are better than the way they used to be, the LAWMA agents clean the road and highway in the early morning, the power supply is okay to an extent- if NEPA head did not touch.

If you are a lover of Nigerian music, or you are active on the Nigerian social scene, you may have heard lines and comments about MUSHIN and celebrities who came from the hood like Wande Coal, WurlD and me, of course.

  • It’s a midpoint

Mushin is in proximity to Isolo and Surulere, if you are looking to experience the Lagos lifestyle as a hustler, Mushin is the go-to place. There are several affordable houses for rent in Mushin.

I just want societies and organization to give humans from this area a sense of opportunity. There is a lot of talent here.

Dear beautiful people, the Mushin that we have now is far better than the Mushin of many years ago. Happy worker’s day!

This is such an all in one write up. Am sure most of us face situations like not being proud or able to mention to people we are from Mushin based on what the area used to be. May be we know less or don’t know at all, we have Mushin product holding important positions in every part of the country. I grew up in the hood too and also an indigene, my advice for the younger ones is to choose their role model wisely. May God continue to give you wisdom 🙏

Mushin is full of the good, the bad and the ugly. You ll surely find your size, anyhow. The urbanscape is densely populated, with various lifestyle, you name it.
Generally, government need to renew the neighbourhood to elevate social economic and infrastructural facilities for the well being of the Mushine.

some sanity in terms of urbanisation facilities

A popular dictum goes ,”out of the dark pot emerges white mea”l ,especially pap.
Of course,everycommunity/ environment has duo possibilities ,:
    ~Positive side
    ~Negative side.
However, benefit surfaces when the positive portion outshines the negative.
As a health institution, General Hospital where I function,do accommodate all ethnic groups without discrimination.
Mushin is an arena where hoodlums are resident..
This is evident by the countless Fadipe I.Onumber of casualties who do access the hospital daily for medical attention ,ranging from armed robbery, fight, all forms of assaults and insults, accident victims,gun-shot injuries, etc.
Well, moment of Islamic fasting minimally stems down societal vices.
